Community benefits,
developed with you

Because we plan, build and operate wind farms that last for decades, we do everything to ensure we’re part of the local community. We collaborate and consult with communities. This results in a range of benefits to some truly out of the way places in Australia, and the Central Highlands is no different.

Part of the solution, without lifting a finger

An overwhelming majority of Tasmanians would like to do more about climate change. The best way to address that is by increasing the amount of renewable energy generated, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.

When the Bashan Wind Farm is up and running, it will generate over 400 MW of clean energy.

The local community and Tasmanians will become part of the solution, without lifting a finger. With more wind energy, Tasmania can achieve new ambitions to be part of Australia’s green manufacturing economy.

Procurement icon

Local procurement & sourcing where possible

The very process of building the wind farm will create benefits, with roughly 300 people employed during construction.

We will focus on local sourcing for contractors, consultants and service providers, ensuring our investment goes straight to the Central Highlands’ economy. Roads will also be upgraded. We’ll be looking to reuse steel and repurpose materials from construction wherever we can.

We’re sure some of you will want shipping containers – we’ll try to accommodate this.

Training icon

Training, skills, employment & security

Once complete, the Bashan Wind Farm will be operated and maintained by a team of highly skilled turbine technicians, electrical engineers, SCADA programmers and other specialists. We will also need delivery and truck drivers, fencing contractors, horticulturalists, plumbers, builders, environmental advisors, arborists, riggers, earthmoving contractors, civil engineers, safety specialists and many others.

We will recruit, train and employ staff locally for the wind farm wherever we can. Please get in touch if you would like to find out more about working on the Bashan Wind Farm.

Nature icon

Heightened focus on the natural environment

We are working on preserving the best habitat on site and monitoring species, flora, and vegetation communities, some of which support endangered species.

Our Development Manager has been doing this for years with the Cattle Hill Wind Farm service team and the best experts available to assist. So don’t worry, you’re in good hands.

We’ll also have an enhanced version of the award-winning IdentiFlight system protecting Wedge-tailed Eagles, but it’s not just eagles we look after – get in touch if you want to find out more.

Support icon

Strategic support for community groups

The Bashan Wind Farm is looking to develop a community fund and benefits package, based on lessons learned from other funds.

We’ve already distributed $2 million through Community Grant Funds from Goldwind projects across Australia.

We haven’t finalised the details yet, but if you have a deserving project, initiative, club, society or group in the Central Highlands, we would love to hear about it.

Benefit icon

Ongoing economic boost for the Central Highlands

The project will result in ongoing investment into the Central Highlands economy.

In fact, the investment has already begun with the Bashan team working in the local area since 2021, providing direct and indirect income to the area – and we haven’t even started yet!

We want to source people, services and products locally wherever possible – and not just the Central Highlands – by local, we mean from Tasmania.
